Comments:

I love getting comments on the blog but due to all the spam and advertisements I was getting (guess that comes from a lot of hits, thanks to you all!!!) I put comments on moderation. I did pull a 'Brittany' though yesterday and pushed delete instead of
post. I am very sorry, if you re-post your comment I will put it up. I post pretty much every comment that comes in, even those I don't agree with I don't want to censor. The only ones I leave off are ones that are simply posted to be cruel.

WTF: Brendan Fraser

I was 15 or 16 when I went to the movies to see 'School Ties'. So much to love about this move. Besides Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell, Cole Hauser and Randall Batinkoff the movie had me wishing I could be sent away to a private school. (Many other movies had me having this same dream).

Most of the cast is still looking mighty fine, but looks are not what this post is about. Seeing Brendan Fraser on tv this past week promoting his new film, 'Furry Vengeance' has been down right depressing. What on earth happened to Fraser? He mentioned on one show having a bit of a Red Bull addition and I hope that is all it is. Although Fraser continues to act, is now producing and has a family he appears out of his everlovin tree. Maybe he is just hyper, maybe he is just nervous doing live tv, but if I were his agent I would certainly pull him from doing any more press for this movie.

Another crush bites the dust...

Who's looking out for Cindy Lou Who???

A couple of years ago I picked up season 1 of Gossip Girl. I really enjoyed the first season of this show and wrote several blog posts about how great season 1 was. Then came season 2. For some reason there seemed to something missing. The magic of season 1 was gone and I have not watched a complete episode since. I did buy season 2 on DVD last fall, but thus far nothing has motivated me to stick it in the machine. Is there a reason to? Please let me know.

One of my favorite story lines in season 1 wa The Humphrey family and their contrast to the other wealthy families shown. Actress Taylor Momsen played younger sister Jenny Humphrey and had some of season 1 most interesting story lines with her struggle to blend in yet remain herself in her new school and setting.

Actress Taylor Momsen appears to have had some struggles of her own. It was just announced that Taylor is either leaving the show, or at least not going to be shown as prominently next season. Before Gossip Girl, Taylor was best known for her role in the life action Grinch along side Jim Carey.

I always thought Jenny looked her best when dressed as she was above. This contrasts Taylor Momsen who more often than not is photographed as she appears below...

Taylor began GG at the age of 13 and today is still only 15. She is often shown smoking, swearing and looking like she is either getting ready work the pole in some strip club or looking like she is a street kid in need of a good meal and a shower. My question is who is looking out for this child. No matter how old she tries to look, she is indeed still a child. With all the press and trouble many young entertainers get in I question who is guiding Taylor. Given her age, I cannot hold her accountable for her behavior. Her parents, agents and even co-stars and co-workers on GG need to question how this child is behaving. She may want to be a rock star, but before that I hope whoever has any input with her, encourage her to finish school, put down the cigarettes, shut up and get her act together. If she were 18 or 19 I would still worry but she has been acting this way since about 13. Like little Cindy Lou Who it appears Taylor Momsen is facing the Grinch all by her lonesome.

The List: Pamela Anderson

Although I know many check out FH for the pictures, I know there are few of you out there who also read my ramblings from time to time. I have talked in some of my past posts about my life and my struggle to come out in my 20's. Up until that point the I had only had sex with women and in fact was engaged until I finally got the strength to be honest with myself. I did not hate sex with women, in fact I quite enjoyed it. I did however know that I was not happy and certainly was missing something.

This leads me to 'the list'. Some of you might find this annoying, (so simply skip by) some might enjoy it and some might even relate. 'The list' in this case is of women I not only love, but as well find sexually attractive.

Let me start by saying up until Dancing With The Stars this season I had little respect for Pamela Anderson. I never watched Baywatch, never really saw her in anything except magazines. I knew of her sex tapes, her playboy layouts and some crazy behavior. Dancing however has shown me another side of this woman. I cannot help it but she has won me over. Even with the hair dye and the fake boobs there is something so naturally sexy about her that it literally pours through the television screen. I never thought I would use natural and Pamela Anderson in the same sentence but watching her dance is surprisingly erotic to me (and it is not just the adorable Damian Whitewood).

I am sure some of you think I am crazy, but I am sure a few of you might relate. I think Pamela going down for her splits on the last episode was one of the most beautiful and sexy things on tv I have seen in awhile. It is very interesting to me when one project can change my feelings about someone so dramatically.

Kate Kate Go Away, Don't Return another day!

I do not know Kate Gosselin. She might be in 'real life' a wonderful woman. I somehow doubt that though. I doubt it because no matter how hard I try to ignore her she is everywhere. I want to know who I can call to get a restraining order. She in infiltrating my life no matter how fast I try to run in the opposite direction.

I first heard of Kate like most of you when she and was on Jon and Kate plus 8. The show held no interest for me and I chose never to turn it on. Personally I have an issue with people having big families. (The The Duggars bother me as much as Octomom. In a world in which millions of children in this country and world wide have no family, no parents, are in foster care and group homes, large families like this actually turn my stomach.) But I digress....

The first few seasons of her show, I managed to avoid her for the most part except for the odd tv commercial or small picture in a magazine. I could live with the small intrusion in my life of someone I did not want there.

Then...well then her marriage hit the skids, my ability to avoid my stalker went to hell and a handbasket. Kate started showing up in every magazine and news paper I opened. Not just the trash rags mind you, mainstream reputable news papers and magazines were covering the marriage of Kate and Jon. Kate was on my evening news, CNN, almost every entertainment show there is. It was odd to me. Kate is not an actress (not a good one anyway). Kate does not sing, dance (oh God she CANNOT dance). She has no clearly visible talent other to annoy. Yet...she makes the news.

Even with this annoyance I managed to deal without requiring police involvement. I switched her off, quickly flipped the pages containing her usually scowling face, and continued to try to keep this unpleasant woman from my life.

Kate would have none of this though. Kate, like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction will not be ignored. With her marriage in turmoil, Kate and her pr machine decided I MUST pay attention. She began not only being inside magazines she now was not content unless she and her extensions were on the cover. I could not quickly skip through the 10 items or less isle without having to have a Kate encounter. The producers of The View stupidly thought she should co-host on a regular basis. (Really bad decision. Scuzzy really. The show does not need ratings that badly).

She showed up on Dancing With The Stars.... Really this show must change it's name. When it hired actors/singers and sports people, even those on the D-list, it was fine to keep stars in the title. But with Kate they really need to change the name to 'Dancing With Whomever we think will get you to tune in.'
I must say I have never really watched this show, but I have seen enough of Kate to know her partner Tony deserves a medal. It is like he is dragging a 165 pound wooden mannequin around the floor each week. No offence to mannequins. Her kiss and 'I love you's' to her children are so fake only an idiot would think she being anything but manipulative.

Today I reached my limit. Not only did I read she is co-hosting ET this week (Mary Hart does not get much respect from me, but she deserves better). That on top of having to turn of the Today Show this morning to avoid Meredith's exclusive... (exclusive FUCK! What more could she have to say).

I want to know who out there gives a shit about this woman??? I really want to know because your interest is causing me and the rest of the world to have to continue to put up with her intrusion in our lives. Even Paris Hilton has dropped off the radar, Kate should have been gone long ago.

There must be a law, there truly must be. Unless one is to move to a cabin in the woods with no media one cannot escape Kate. Even then, my guess is she will find you. Don't put it past her to slap a backpack on and hike into the woods to throw the latest issue of 'In Touch' on your doorstep!

Again...this woman will not be ignored. I hope she goes away soon, I wish violence on no one, I truly do not. But preview audiences for Fatal Attraction insisted Close's Alex get her due. Kate, go away before Anne Archer launches a come back. Please!

Never has someone in the media tried to burrow themselves somewhere they clearly have no place being. Sadly...truly sadly she is succeeding.

In The News...

Just my thoughts on two stories in the news this week...

Nicollette Sheridan:

I liked Nicollette Sheridan. I did not watch a lot of Desperate Housewives, but when I did it was because of Nicollette and her character. I have not watched but a few minutes this season. Without Edie tramping up the street the show holds little interest to me.

I have no idea what happened on the set. Marc Cherry could be an ass, Nicollette could just be bitter. But... There is no denying to me that Cherry treated Sheridan like the runt of the litter on DH for the past 5 years. From the obvious, not putting her in the opening credits to the more subtle. Cherry liked to make Edie (and Sheridan) expendable each season, maybe keeping Sheridan and Edie fans in line. He had her move away, attempt suicide and despite her popularity chose to leave her out of countless episodes including several season finales. It was obvious she was a fan favorite, magazines insisted on her when putting the cast on the cover. Award shows wanted her with the cast. Sheridan is correct that it is very unprecedented to fire and kill off one of a shows most popular characters, particularly at a time ratings when are going down. It was clear Cherry had an issue with Sheridan if you ever watched him being interviewed about her or the character. He diminished her contributions to the show at every turn.

Whether or not he did any or all of the things Sheridan is accusing him of is not clear. It is crystal clear however that he pushed (figuratively or literally) this desperate housewife one time to many...

Tiger Woods:

I find it hard to believe that many pr experts are calling Tiger Woods new Nike commercial brilliant and brave.... Come on!

It is manipulative bullshit and anyone with a brain can see that. Obviously Nike and Tiger think that Americans are truly stupid. Not sure...maybe they are right. I cannot believe there are so many people who think because this man can hit a ball into a hole somehow makes his actions ok.

I don't care about Tiger Woods, I really don't want him on the News at all. But more than that I don't want him on the news being praised. People make mistakes, for sure, I actually don't dislike Tiger because of his mistakes. I dislike him because after the mistakes came to light, Tiger and his PR people went on such a blatant campaign to make the guy a victim (A victim of the media, a victim of the women he fucked, a victim of his father) that it truly disgusts me.

There are true victims in the world, true people who have suffered. True people who need rehab in a serious way...'not a pr way'. Tiger has not suffered, he caused suffering and should not be rewarded because he has millions to hire pr people to rehabilitate his image.

This story at it's core represents the ugliest part of our society.
Mistakes should not be judged, we all make them. But... Mistakes should also not be rewarded. America currently has a system of rewarding those who screw up who screw others. TV is full of them, TMZ makes them 'temp celebrites' so called celebrity magazines make them cover stories.

The lesson in Tiger Woods is screw a famous married man and get a job on 'Access Hollywood' and a spread in 'Vanity Fair'. Our kids are soaking it all in. As the wonderful Stephen Sondheim said; 'Children may not obey, but children will listen'.

The Blind Side

I love me some Jesse James and I try not to judge...
But... on the heels of the past few weeks when the truly wonderful Sandra Bullock was on stage after stage, and in interview after interview. And each of these times, she spoke of her love for this man and how her marriage changed her life, this story, and the timing of it, are truly quite sad.

We don't know the details, possibly there is more to the story. People make mistakes, many of them.

But to Jesse, Tiger anyone else who does not feel they can live a life of monogamy I understand. Just stop marrying. Most marriages require you to take a vow. If the vow does not fit for you, skip the ceremony. Monogamy is not for everyone. To me personally, especially with gay marriage still not legal...when you chose to marry, monogamy should be. Otherwise simply stay single.

'Up' The Academy

I was about to post a long rant (like many others I know) about Farrah and Bea's diss at the Oscars this year. No doubt they are tv stars, but also both had some movies. Actors go where the roles are which is why Holly Hunter, Glenn Close, Mary Louise Parker, Kyra Sedgwick and others are now starring on television. I am sure they would not have been left out.

The Academy issues a pathetic apology this morning (which actually surprised me) for leaving Farrah out. We won't get one for Bea and I can live with that. Just let me say this. Whenever I am watching the Oscars in a group, the only time the room gets quiet is during the 'In Memoriam'. It begins with some 'shhs', it is one of the reasons many watch. I love James Taylor, but really. We don't need a singer, we don't want fancy camera angles. We want music, quietly in the background of single close up shots of those who have left us over the past 12 months. We don't care if it is 3 minutes or 30. Rid the show of the dance numbers the silly opening numbers (unless they feature Neil Patrick Harris) and put the attention where it belongs. Honoring those who made an impact in the business.

Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur are actress's who worked on tv, the stage and movies. They were loved. The academy, no matter how they try to play it, did not realize just how much.

I think this is an easy one, but any guesses?

Seriously....Seriously....

With apologies to all the great television comedy writers out there...the funniest thing i have seen on tv all year was today's press conference... Really Tiger, how dare the media put your wife and family in such a horrible position. Really! Hilarious. If only there were not people out there who actually buy it. We will see him back on the golf course any day now.

Favorite Book Of The Day: 'In Their Youth' by Greg Gorman

Rupert Everett

'I think that for an American Male to make a book about male beauty, young male beauty, is still something taboo in this culture'.
Greg Gorman

Cannot believe I missed the release of Greg Gorman's latest book 'In Their Youth' last Fall. Would have made a great Christmas gift! Well thanks to Amazon I can get a Winter pick me up as I placed an order Friday.

“I don’t want to do another friggin celebrity book; I mean, I’ve done them (…) I’ve really enjoyed doing male portraiture; and I decided to do a project that expressed my infatuation with male beauty, especially in terms of youth,”
Greg Gorman

I have always loved Gorman's work, and his books. You can order your own at Amazon HERE:

No Joy...

Joy Behar, who at one time was one of my favorites on The View has become one my least favorites. It is not just her comments today (I just watched on youtube) but it is a dozen or so comments about gays she has made over the past year. Yeah I know she was quoting another, but that is not enough for me. I am not sure know Joy gets how putting statements like that out there only make it more difficult for those fighting so hard for gay marriage.

I have come to the conclusion that she is not as educated as she needs to be on the subject. I think she is one of those people who thinks because she knows gay people, she is a supporter of gay rights. I don't think Joy is a bad person by any means, but I do think that if you listen carefully to her, she holds opinions, or at least uses jokes about gays, that I would consider to be old fashioned, stereotypical and uneducated. I know most of you will totally think I am crazy, but I have heard more educated and intelligent statements on gay rights and gay marriage from Elizabeth the past 6 months than from Joy.

Highlights of The SAG Awards

Watched my DVR of the Sag awards last night and I must say they were the most enjoyable awards show that I have seen in awhile. The Betty White Tribute was wonderful and deserved. Great also to see the entire cast of Glee on the stage. Congratulations to all the winners.

Totally Confused: (1998)

There are many gay themed movies out there, some very good. Up until watching ‘Totally Confused’ however, I had never really watched any that came close to my own experience. ‘Totally Confused’ did not mirror my experience exactly, but there were themes and scenes that came pretty damned close. I came out quite late. I was in my mid twenties and had spent many years in a very loving relationship with a very wonderful woman. I am happy to say we are still close today. During this time one of my good friends came out, and that began a journey which I am still on today. My connections with the movie are many and my comments are laced with moments from the movie as well as my own experiences.

I think many gay men are involved in 3 way relationships. When I say 3 way, I am not exactly talking sexual. I am talking about having a good friend, often a women and becoming an important part of her relationship with her boyfriend or husband. Though these relationships can be dangerous, all relationships have risks really, it is more about not losing your own life to be a ‘tag on’ for another. It took me awhile to learn this important lesson.

‘Totally Confused‘ is a simple story really. Wiley and Johnny are best friends, Johnny is in love with Annie, and of course as it usually happens in a triangle, Wiley is in love with Johnny.

Both Johnny and Wiley take journey’s to become honest with themselves over the course of ‘Totally Confused’. Johnny has to come to terms with the fact the music career he feels in on the brink of taking off is not actually going to happen. Wiley’s journey is a bit more difficult to explain. To me it comes down to him finding a life beyond the time he spends with Johnny and Annie. Without them, he usually spends most of his time, when not working, alone. His only company being the extensive porn collection he holds on so closely to.

I identified with both Johnny and Wiley in ‘Totally Confused’ and at different points of my life was both of them. At the core of the movie is their friendship and although it goes through some changes, I really loved how Pritikin and Rosen respected both characters through the changes and made neither of them a victim or a hero. Just guys going through life, sometimes fooling themselves, but ultimately achieving small victories which really is all we can expect in life.

The movie is full of lines and dialogue that spoke to me in one way or another and I am sure are universal and apply to many of you.

“I don’t see why you care so much” Johnny to Wiley about his relationship with Annie.

-I remember being heavily invested in some of the love lives of a couple of close straight friends of mine. It was not that I ever thought (or wanted) a sexual relationship with them, but having a good friend find a partner can be scary for many, it was for me the fear that they might leave you and you would be alone. Sometimes this has you interfering a bit more in their lives than you really should be.

‘What do you know about Fags, you run whenever you see one’
Johnny to Wiley.

-When I was in the closet the scariest thing to me was interacting with another gay man. I stupidly worried anyone who might see me with a gay man would instantly know I was too. So silly in hindsight, but so real at the time. I still know little about ‘gay life’ really, living in a rural area, sometimes I feel I need to take a course.

“I went to a gay bar last night, I just didn’t go in.’ Wiley to Johnny.

When I came out, for some reason I thought I had to go to a gay bar to actually be gay. The problem was my 1 gay friend was off to university and I had no one to go with. This line made me laugh as I remember driving to the one gay bar I knew of in a nearby city and sitting in my car for about 30 minutes before I turned around and went home. I felt like I accomplished something just by going to the location even though I did not go in. I still have no interest really in going to gay bars. Maybe I have never been to the right one. The few times I have gone, I usually end up leaving early. I do plan on hitting Splash the next time I am in New York though...

‘He has hair in his nose’ Wiley to Johnny about why he is not going to go out with a guy on a second date.

My friends (some still do) think any one gay guy should be attracted to the other. and it was hilarious to me some of the guys my friends would fix me up with. Any guy who said he was gay at one time or another I was pushed towards, no matter how incompatible we were.

‘Just because I hate everybody does not make me depressed’ Wiley to Johnny

I just love that line as it applies to me in so many ways and on so many days.

‘The whole human interaction thing is so over rated’ Wiley to Johnny.

Same reason as above.

I want to thank Pritikin and Rosen for finally writing a story that I could relate so closely to. ‘Totally Confused’ to me says so much and breaks down stereotypes quietly and with humor without having to bash a lesson down the viewers throat. ‘Totally Confused’ introduces the audience to two men, both with immense vulnerabilities wide open for all to see. They try so hard to keep them hidden, an in that hiding they actually expose themselves more than they intended.

All of the actors do a great job, and the leads are all likable, particularly Pritikin. The magic in 'Totally Confused' is in the writing though, with many cultural references you might need to watch twice to catch.

Near the end of the movie we hear a bit of ‘The Rose’ theme playing. I need to say I am sorry to Bette Midler as I always thought this song was too over the top and hated it for that reason. But a song that for so long I loathed, actually has a line that sums up this movie and the lesson I needed to learn in order to be happy. ‘It’s the heart afraid of breaking, that never learns to live’. Sappy of course but after all these years, that song finally has a bit of meaning to me.

I wholeheartedly recommend renting or buying ‘Totally Confused’. I got mine on Amazon. I should tell you all it is not filled with tons of sex and nudity, and the drama is not on the breathtaking grand epic proportion of a ‘Brokeback Mountain’. This is a character piece with real life events. The changes in the characters over the course of the movie are small ones, yet monumental. Much like real life. I loved this movie, but understand it may not be for all. Love to hear thoughts from others who have seen this movie. This movie did not hit me so much for what it is, but more for what it meant to me. For that, I again thank Pritikin and Rosen.

Johnny and Wiley's first time was far too familiar to me...
